Our Tour begins at Cuernavaca Cathedral, from here we depart for Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary at 5:45 am., we will travel to the State of Mexico, on the border with the State of Michoacan, and arrive at “El Sauco”, the base of the mountain, at approximately 8:45 am. As soon as we arrive, and before you begin the trek to the Sanctuary, accompanied by a local guide, you will enjoy some sandwiches, salad and refreshments, compliments of your tour. Due to the fact that this is a very rough uphill trail, we suggest you do the climb by horseback, these will be provided on site by the local guides, there is a fee for the horses which is also included on your tour.

As soon as you reach the summit, after a 40 minute horseback ride, you will reach Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, and there you will be able to enjoy and marvel at one of Nature’s most amazing sights, the Monarch Butterfly winter nesting area. After enjoying the amazing view of thousands of Monarch Butterflies, hovering around you, we head back down the Mountain

Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary

From Souco, we will travel to the nearby town of Valle de Bravo, this beautiful colonial town is a must see, there you will visit the town square and cathedral, and have an hour and a half of sightseeing, and a much needed lunch at a local restaurant, (not included on the cost of the tour), and from here, we will depart back to our final destination, the City of Cuernavaca, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m. It is important to note, that we suggest to take a coat, or thick sweater,  because in the early morning hours, the weather gets a little chilly,  if by the time you get to Piedra Herrada, the weather is warmer, you can always leave your coat in the van, also it is important to wear sturdy hiking shoes, or boots, and we strongly suggest to make the climb on horseback, due to the fact that the climb is steep and in rough terrain, some people do make the hike on foot, but we do not advise it.
